RDF Processing methods

The production of Refuse Derived Fuels involves the mechanical processing of household source-separated waste and industrial or commercial waste using screens, shredders and separators to recover recyclable materials and to produce a combustible product. Systems involve the removal of inert and compostable materials followed by pulverisation to produce a feedstock which can be incinerated in the industry.

 A typical plant (similar to the one to be deployed by Enerco), comprises of the following sections:

  • primary shredder;
  • heavy/light fraction separation (trommel screen and/or ballistic separator);
  • air classifier;
  • magnetic separation
  • non-ferrous metal separation (eddy current)
  • secondary shredder;
