Phase I:
At this phase Enerco will undertake the handling of waste originating from local or EU sorting facilities. This waste (Code 19 12 12) is the residue resulting from the sorting process of waste material usually collected from organisations such as Green Dot. Residual waste of this character may also be available from industrial and commercial sources, if the material is economically non-recyclable e.g. Tetrapak, etc.
This residual material will be processed, utilising proven technology, for the preparation of Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF) to be used as alternative fuels.
The total amount of RDF to be produced at the Enerco site will be limited by the amount of incoming residual waste, however it is anticipated that up to 20,000 tons of waste will be processed on an annual basis.
At this stage Enerco will also handle other materials such as:-
Tyres:
Alongside the operation of Stage 1 for the preparation of RDF, Enerco will also be actively involved in the management of used tyres originating from the whole of Cyprus. As of January 1st 2010, Enerco is responsible for the waste management of all tyres destined for VCW.
Enerco’s procedures will include the reception of up to 5,000 tons of used tyres per year and their management to be used as another alternative fuel for VCW.
Glass:
Enerco will also be responsible for the handling of waste glass to be used as raw material for VCW. The 3,000 tons of glass generated annually in Cyprus are currently collected by sub-contractors on behalf of Green Dot; however the only outlet at this point is VCW.
Phase II
The 2nd Phase of Enerco’s operation will be the expansion of the processes to allow for the handling of material collected through Green Dot's subcontractors, as part of the collective system's household collected material. It is estimated that approximately 45,000 tons of PMD and PAPER material will be received, sorted and exported annually on behalf of Green Dot.
